 THOMAS MOTT (c. 1796 - 1863)

Thomas was born in 1796/7. He married Mary Ann Cause and they had at least three children: Mary Ann born in 1824, Thomas Cause in 1825/6 and Sophia Ann in about 1828. Thomas died on 12 March 1863 and Mary Ann in 1871.

 

THE CHILDREN OF THOMAS (c.1796 - 1863)

Thomas’ first child, Mary Ann, was born in 1824 and baptized on 25 January 1825 at St Mary’s Whitechapel in Stepney. She married William Thomas Thorn and they had nine children: Rosa Sophia born in 1851, Eleanor in 1853, Marion in 1855, William Thomas in 1856, Fanny in 1858, Oliver in 1860, Walter in 1863, Gertrude in 1865 and Frederick Cecil in 1867. William Thomas died on 6 October 1881, and twelve years later Mary Ann was living at 172 Holland Road, Kensington.

Thomas’ second child, Thomas Cause, was born in about 1825, and died on 3 October 1863. Nothing further is known at present.

Thomas’ third child, Sophia Ann, was born in Shenfield, Essex, in about 1828. She married Charles Benson, by whom she had six children: Charles J C, Thomas Herbert, Ada Mary, Ernest William, Edith and Edgar Percy Stewart. The 1881 census recorded Charles and Sophia at Little Preston Farm, Seamens Lane, South Hanningfield, Essex: Charles was a "farmer of 570 acres employing fifteen men and five boys".
